I was home for the weekend last week so my friend Lisa and I went out for lunch. Suggesting sushi we went to a place I've past time and time again in Lynbrook called Tofu. It was a hybrid Japanese/ Chinese restaurant. Truth be told I'm very weary of such places, this was different. I wish I found out about this place 5 years ago.
Before we even ordered anything, tea and crunchy noodles were brought out. Now I'm not one for tea, but i really dug this. No discernible flavor and was kind of bland but i really loved it. As for the noodles, really crispy and just greasy enough. This place was already following the guidelines for my favorite places to eat, lets continue!
What i ordered was a lunch special and a roll, so of course a miso soup was included. Really heavy on the onions this time. Other then that it was your basic miso soup, always good.
Now this is my kind of roll!! Crab spicy crunchy tuna avocado and unagi covered in tempura flakes, unagi sauce and spicy mayonnaise. This was heaven, simply perfect for me. Everything I like in one roll, bliss! AN EXELENT ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They cook the best eel i have even eaten. Perfectly crisp, tender and the smokey flavor is unparalleled here. The sauce too is out of this world THE BEST EEL!!!!!
I tried some of Lisa's rolls, one was your typical eel avocado roll (which was very good)and the other was far more interesting. It was lettuce and Kani. It wasn't as good as you would think. Very bland and a little watery. Not much else to say about it.
I can't resist a lunch special. Tonkatsu, a California roll and a little bit of salad. Tonkatsu my love, its been far too long. Indeed this was a tonkatsu to love. Crispy, crunchy and all too tender. Excellent by all means even the sauce was perfection. AWESOME! The California roll, take it or leave it i consider all the same so its just more to eat. Call them the french fries of the sushi lunch special. The salad too was standard but it was really just and add on for me. Tasty though.
Being the man that I am I snatched up the check and I will every time!
